Sh*t That I Knit is a knitwear company based out of Boston, MA. Their Founder and CKO (Chief Knitting Officer), Christina, learned how to knit as a 10 year old from the CMO (Chief Mom Officer) in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. As they head into our third season selling knit sh*t, they now employ a group of women in Lima, Peru who they say, are much better knitters than they are. Because of companies like Sh*t, they can knit from home- enabling them to take care of their children while bringing in income to support their families. Sh*t That I Knit was founded out of a serious love of knitting and a minor love for joking around about the word sh*t.
You can feel pretty good about your hat, because with your purchase you help support our Give-A-Sh*t program. We donate Give-A-Sh*t Knit Kits to young adults undergoing cancer treatment all over the country. We've most notably partnered with Dana Farber's Young Adult Program here in Boston and are working to expand the program!
So it may come as no surprise that Peruvians have been knitting garments out of wool since 1100 BC. Sh*t That I Knit uses the highest-quality wool in the world. So, obviously, it comes from Peru. For you non-fiber-freaks, Peru is widely regarded as the producer of wool. Forget itchy, bulky, molting wool sweaters in the back rack of thrift stores—this wool is the caviar of fibers.
